Our big move

What a BUSY BUSY BUSY time this last month has been!  Packing, sorting, organizing, throwing things in the trash. Here's a little story about our BIG move.

We brought the truck home Monday to pack. Brandon announced in church the day before that we were looking for help loading up our truck, but he said the crickets were really loud. So it was Brandon, my dad, and me loading up that truck like real-life Tetris. And Ryker of course, who is EXTRA helpful. It was 105 degrees that day. That was definitely fun.

Tuesday we were up really early and ready to go.

Ryker really wanted to ride in the truck with Daddy and Papa Eddy (this is what Ryker has named Grandpa Eddy), but he was stuck in the van with me, Hannah, and my mom and dad. We just finished potty training him, so we took his little potty in the car with us, which was a lifesaver. Take note, if you drive a long distance with a little child, take the potty in the car with you!
About to embark on our adventure!

Ryker had some sad goodbyes with his two best friends.

Brandon had a tire blowout just outside of Evanston, so he and Grandpa Eddy ended up being stuck for over two hours waiting for a service to bring them a new tire. We continued on in the van, because let's face it, you're running on borrowed time when driving with kids.

We stopped at this little park in Rock Springs for lunch, and they had this little pool that was free, kind of like a splash pad, but with a little slide instead. Ryker marched over to it and stepped in with his clothes on. I guess I lost that battle. He took somebody's squirt gun and walked around squirting babies and adults in the face.

Hannah was a trooper, she had her times of crying, but overall, she did really well. Ryker watched a few movies, but he had a really hard time staying in his seat. I was the parent allowing the unsafe behavior on this trip.

I was dozing in the backseat, and when I woke up, Ryker had given his powdered donut to Hannah. There is powdered donut dust all over the car. That was a bad gas station purchase.

FINALLY, after 2 days in the car, 16 hours of driving total, 930 miles driven, we arrived in Lincoln.

Brandon beat us there in the truck, so he had already unloaded some of the garage stuff. Remember how eager the Elder's Quorum was to help us in Utah? I kid you not, we had men keep showing up from our ward in Lincoln. They just kept coming. We ended up having ten men, including the missionaries help us unload the truck. We had the ENTIRE truck unloaded and everything put in the correct room in less than an hour. Then a very nice lady from the Relief Society showed up with dinner for us. Pork roast, pasta salad, homemade bread, veggies, even drinks and plates and forks. And they invited us to a ward barbecue for the 4th, which was the next day. We went and met a lot of very nice people.

Here are the kids playing so nicely while we worked our tails off.
These kids were exhausted. Not to mention the adults.
My parents flew home Friday, and Grandpa Eddy flew home today. We would not have been able to do any of it without them. We got our entire house organized and put together, and I cannot tell you how many times my parents went back and forth to Walmart to get things to make sure everything was just right. They all worked tirelessly. A huge thanks to all three of them.

We went to the Haymarket farmer's market this morning. It was fun, and hot. And humid. Oh my goodness, it is humid here.

Ryker and me in our Nebraska gear.

I am making a few mental notes of things I have learned already.

1. Don't mess with the 4th of July around here.
2. Don't go to Walmart on 27th. You will lose faith in humanity.
3. Weird intersections around here. There's a big huge multi-laned roundabout by our house and there was a little old man driving on the wrong side of the road through it today. He seemed oblivious to the fact that he was driving on the left side and that people were swerving out of the way.
4. Nebraska is beautiful. It's very green, tons of trees, rolling hills, big fields of corn.
5. Cici's Pizza is quite delicious.
6. You must accept that if you go outside, you will sweat. Outside=a lotta sweat. Inside=a little sweat. Why is it so humid here? Jeez freaking Louise.

That's all for now. Stay tuned.

  1. Glad to hear you guys made it safe! Yeah church members tend to be much more helpful outside of Utah. Good luck on your adventures while you are there!

  2. Love it! I have always heard negative things about Nebraska's weather it sounds nice though. You are amazing. I am still shocked about your house being organized and pictures hung on the wall. I wish I had your motivation.
