Today we went to the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha. Generally speaking, going to the zoo doesn't thrill me. I think it's hot and stinky and crowded. Hogle Zoo in SLC seriously lacks in awesome animals. They don't even have lions! Let me say, this zoo is worth making a trip to Omaha. It is AWESOME. I think Brandon and I had more fun than our kids. We got there when it opened and stayed about 6 hours, and we still only saw about half of it. We had reached our humidity sweat limit for the day. They have the country's largest indoor rainforest and the world's largest indoor desert. It was crazy, I tell you. What was so great about this zoo was that if you couldn't see an animal, there were ways to see it from above, behind, and below. And it wasn't just one gorilla here, one tiger there, it was 10 gorillas here, 6 tigers there, 20 orangutans here, 2000 bats there. I found myself so enthralled with looking at the animals, I had to catch up to Brandon a few times. There are a lot of pictures in this post.
In the rainforest...
Have I ever mentioned how much I hate bats? They were just flying free in this place.
This is an arapaima. The reason I took this picture is because we love to watch River Monsters, and Jeremy Wade once caught an arapaima in the Amazon. This fish is HUMONGOUS. Easily 5 or 6 feet long. It made my weird British fisherman crush on Jeremy Wade a little stronger.
In the aquarium....
These crabs are about 4 feet in diameter. I'm not sure who that little girl with her arm around Ryker is.
Jellyfish
In the desert dome...
Not a real lizard.
In the gorilla/ monkey/ cat/ snake houses....
This monkey made me sad. He sat in this corner with this big disk and just stared out at us.
On the train...
The ride home....
Come visit us and we will go to the zoo!

OH, poor Ryker. I bet his neck hurt when he woke up! I have wanted to go to that zoo. Each time we have driven (probably a half a dozen or so times) through there I wished we could have stopped and saw it. Maybe we'll have to come visit!
